Dear Members,

As a diverse organization that encompasses so many beautiful cultures, it is important for us to stand together. To acknowledge those who are marginalized and need our support. That being said, we are deeply saddened and angered regarding the shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, a 25 year old African American man. For those unfamiliar with the case, Ahmaud went for a jog on February 23, 2020, and was killed by two white men in Brunswick, Georgia. The incident was captured on a video that has been spread widely on social media after a lack of any action by Georgia officials.  Awareness has been growing from people dedicating their runs or walks on social media in honor of Ahmaud. This situation has garnered national attention by the efforts of people nationwide. Arrests were finally made on May 7, 2020.

We sincerely hope Ahmaud’s family and friends get true justice through a swift and unbiased investigation and outcome. This is just one example of a long history of violence like this. As long as Black people in the United States are on the receiving end of police brutality and violence, we encourage everyone to speak out and support however they can.

To our members that continuously worry about the lives of themselves and their families, we want you to know we are here to support you. Your lives matter.

Sigma Lambda Gamma stands in solidarity and demands justice.
